TAMPA - Local airport officials were urging travelers planning to fly Tuesday or Wednesday to contact their airlines directly about possible flight cancellations or delays as Tropical Storm Fay approached Florida.
Most flights to and from Tampa International Airport this morning were operating as usual. Continental Airlines canceled its last two flights of the day between Tampa and Key West.
Meanwhile, JetBlue said today that it would waive fees and higher fares for customers planning to fly in or out of Florida but want to change their flight schedules due to the storm. Other airlines were expected to follow suit.
Officials at TIA and the Port of Tampa were scheduled to meet during the day to update contingency plans in anticipation of bad weather disrupting operations.
Airport officials and tenants planned to meet late this afternoon to update contingency plans for the prospects of bad weather.
A "heavy weather" committee of those involved in Port of Tampa operations was meeting this morning to discuss plans, but at this point no shipments to or from the port have been disrupted, a port spokesman said.
Carnival Cruise Lines' Inspiration ship, which was scheduled to sail today from Tampa, instead sailed on Saturday and headed directly to Cozumel, Mexico, Carnival spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz said.
