Here's the schedule for the 2008-09 opera season at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
"The Barber of Seville"
When: Fri., Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
Where: Carol Morsani Hall at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa
How Much: Starts at $39.50; (813) 229-7827
Puccini's "Suor Angelica" and "Gianni Schicchi"
When: Feb. 27 and March 1
What: These two one-act operas from Puccini's "Il trittico" cover nuns (one with something to hide) and ne'er-do-wells (Schicchi holds the destiny of a family in his hands, not entirely a good thing for everybody).
Federica von Strade and Samuel Ramey
When: March 22
What: The two famous opera singers hit town for one night, performing popular American music.
Gounod's "Faust"
When: April 17 and 19
What: This is some serious opera business, based on Goethe's poetic drama about a man who sells his soul to the devil to win the love of the beautiful Marguerite. Hint: Selling your soul to the devil is not such a good idea.
