System: Nintendo DS
Publisher: Activision
Reviewer's rating: A
ESRB rating: Everyone 10+
Game type: Rhythm-action
Kind of like: "Dance Dance Revolution" for your hands
Best feature: It's amazing using a whole new control system for your DS.
Worst feature: The song selection isn't the best among the "Guitar Hero" games.
The bottom line: There are probably a lot of ways that "Guitar Hero" could have been done on the Nintendo DS. Maybe the thumbpad or A and B buttons could have been used to represent the guitar neck. Maybe the game just would have used the stylus, and you would have had to touch the notes on the screen.
The way "Guitar Hero: On Tour" actually works rocks so much harder that it's not even funny.
This game comes with a gadget that plugs into the Game Boy Advance port of the DS. It has four colored buttons on top, just like a regular "Guitar Hero" controller.
You actually hold the DS sideways as though it were the neck of a guitar and press the four buttons to make the notes. A pick-shaped stylus is included to strum, which is done on the DS touch screen.
The game is otherwise similar. Notes travel down a track at you, and you have to press the appropriate buttons and strum as each note crosses a line at the bottom. Too many misses and you fail the song. One big difference is that two players can play wirelessly, either co-op or competitively.
In regular "Guitar Hero," you activate your star power by tilting your guitar sideways. Here, you yell at the DS microphone. "Let me hear you, Tampa!" will work just fine.
