Conclusions From Years Of Bonding

Published: November 13, 2008

Most overrated Bond: Roger Moore, although he was funny. Of course, by the time "Moonraker" (1979) came out, he was kind of unintentionally funny.

Most underrated Bond: Timothy Dalton, who wasn't all that bad, especially in "The Living Daylights" (1987)

Most disappointing Bond: Pierce Brosnan, because he just seemed like a perfect choice and then he wasn't. The lesson: what works on the small screen doesn't always translate to the big screen, unless you're George Clooney.

Coolest Bond: Sean Connery. Come on, it's not even close.

Second best theme song: "A View to A Kill" by Duran Duran is the only one I can remember, other than the best one, "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney.

Most memorable Bond girl name: Pussy Galore from "Goldfinger" (1964).

Most memorable Bond girl: The original, Ursula Andress, in "Dr. No" (1962)

Coolest Bond girl: Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin in "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997), although I confess this might be because I just think Michelle Yeoh is cool. What other "female lead" spin kicks bad guys into submission?

Most memorable villain: Donald Pleasance as Blofield in "You Only Live Twice" (1967) was so memorable that Michael Myers made a fortune creating a parody of him with Dr. Evil in the "Austin Powers" films.

But the villain I actually remember the most: Baron Samedi (Geoffrey Holder), doing the voodoo ritual and laughing on the train in "Live and Let Die" (1973)
