HANCOCK **Will Smith plays partially against type in this twist on the superhero movie. As the title character, Smith is as tough as ever but replaces his cocky grin with drinking binges, at least until he meets PR guy Jason Bateman, who promises to give him an image makeover. In keeping with the bipolar hero, the movie mixes action sequences with dollops of tragedy and pathos. PG-13, 92 minutes

SPACE CHIMPS (not reviewed)This non-Pixar flick didn't make much of a splash on landing in theaters, but it does feature astronaut monkeys, who blast off to retrieve a missing NASA rover in outermost outer space, only to discover a complicated alien situation featuring the voices of Jeff Daniels and Kristin Chenoweth. G, 81 minutes

MEET DAVE (not reviewed)Perhaps you remember the ads for this comedy, in which Eddie Murphy plays a tiny alien inside a spaceship that looks like ... Eddie Murphy? Yeah. There are the usual fish-out-of-water gags and a plot about water rights, but most viewers are likely to wish that Murphy would give up the alien shtick and dress up like one of the Klumps instead. PG, 90 minutes
