ST. PETERSBURG - Saxophonist B.K. Jackson and "American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta will be the featured performers for Friday's Game 1 of the American League Championship Series at Tropicana Field, the Rays announced today.
Jackson, a 17-year-old Tampa Bay area saxophone sensation, will perform the national anthem before the game. Archuleta, who finished second to David Cook on "American Idol" last season, will sing ''God Bless America'' during the seventh-inning stretch of the game between the Rays and Boston Red Sox.
Jackson performs gospel and jazz and has received numerous awards, having taken top honors at the 2008 Capital Jazz Fest Competition and the 2007 National NAACP ACT-SO (Afro Academic Technological Scientific Olympics). He also won the Black Diamond Award as 2007 Tampa Bay Entertainer of the Year.
Archuleta recently finished the American Idols Live! tour. His first single, ''Crush,'' was released in August, and his self-titled debut album is set for release in November.
