TAMPA - Comedian Chris Rock will host a voters rally Saturday at Belmont Heights Little League Park on East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at North 22nd Street.
"Chris is a surrogate for Barack. I feel great about this [rally]," said H. Bruce Miles, president of Hillsborough County Democratic Black Caucus, which is co-hosting the event with Barack Obama's Florida Campaign for Change. "We're targeting African-Americans, especially in east Tampa, but anybody can come. We're not playing."
Rock was named the fifth greatest stand-up comedian of all time by Comedy Central in 2004. In early July, he brought his "No Apologies" world tour to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
The event is free and open to the public. Park gates will open at 11:30 a.m. and parking will be available at Young Middle Magnet School, 1801 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The show is tentatively scheduled to start between noon and 12:30 p.m. Rock is expected to perform for 40 minutes.
Following Rock's appearance, attendees will be encouraged to walk to the College Hill Library, 2607 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., where voters can cast their ballots.
