Get off Seventh Avenue and dive into the underbelly of Ybor City on a new walking tour guided by "ghosts," dubbed Secret City Walks.
From cigar magnates to Cuban revolutionaries, the ghosts of Ybor City will guide participants past social clubs, cigar factories and casitas that give the historic district its flavor.
The public is invited to the launch of Secret City Walks — a self-guided audio tour created for adventurers to discover the secrets of Ybor — from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday The tour will begin at Teatro, 1600 E. Eighth Ave.
The launch party features live performances by "the ghosts" including James Tokley, poet laureate of Tampa, the tour's narrator; Elio Lopez as Don Vicente Martinez Ybor, Tampa's first industrial baron; John Huls as Charlie Wall, Tampa's first crime boss; and Bonnie Agan as Adela Gonzmart, past owner of the Columbia Restaurant.
After the launch party, the tour will be available for purchase online as an MP3 download with a map for $9.99 at www.SecretCityWalks.com.
Due to stories of prostitution, murder and crime, organizers do not recommend this tour for children.
