March 9

10 a.m. Introduction to Computers with Windows Vista (1 of 4)

Are you new to computers? This four part lecture series is for you. But even as an average Windows user, you will be surprised how many things you do not know.

Something for everyone to learn: navigating file and folders, viewing options, basic maintenance and much more.

This first session we will cover the basic hardware, (briefly), the start menu, and introduce the task bar. Instructor: Ron Purkhiser

1 p.m. Using a Digital Camera

This is one of the most popular classes at the club. So many people now use digital cameras.

You will be introduced to the basic operation of a digital camera and what the various features can do. Instructor: Fred Wise
7 p.m. Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint Shows don't need to be boring text with bullets. You can add photos, clipart, dazzling animations, sound and video. Have some fun while you feature your best photos in stunning slide shows, and more. Instructors: Mike & Nancy Sexton

10 a.m. Getting Comfortable with your Computer (1 of 2)

If you recently received a PC, perhaps as a gift, and are intimidated by it or were told, "Now we can e-mail each other", but don't know where to start, this class might be for you. Joann designed this class for the person who has never used a computer before. Instructor: Joann Frucchione

This second session we will cover more features of the start menu, additional task bar features, and moving around in documents. Instructor Gray Alexander

7 p.m. Linux Workshop

The Linux workshop is a working session for users to bring their questions and experiences to the group. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers with them for use in the workshop. We are working with different subjects each week and expect to cover areas such as installation and administration, file systems, setting up servers (print, file, web, etc), using WINE and virtual machines, and other topics that the group is interested in. 7 p.m. MS Word/Open Office Write

More and more companies and universities are switching from Microsoft Office programs to the free Open Office Suite. In this lectures we show the basics of using a Word Processor and also the similarities of these two programs. If you can use one, you can easily use the other. Instructor: Joann Frucchione

In this lecture you will go through the process of buying and selling on Ebay. Many mistakes can be avoided and this lecture will help you to get the most out of Ebay. Millions of people are successfully using this site to save or make money. See how! Instructor Tim Neddy

7 p.m. MS Excel/Open Office Calc

This spreadsheet software is widely used in business. Anyone wanting to succeed at work can become a polished Excel user by taking this lecture and Hands-on class. See also many of the other uses that are helpful for business or home. Instructors: Mike & Nancy Sexton

10 a.m. Movie Maker for Slide Shows and Video (XP and/or Vista)

Learn how to make a professional looking slide show of your photos, or a movie of digital clips from a camcorder, and burn it to a DVD that can be played in a standard CD/DVD player. Easily add a beginning title page and a scrolling credits page at the end of your show. Add title pages before any photo or video clip, or add titles to them. Place transitions between photos or clips for that professional look. Edit video clips by trimming ends or cutting out segments. Use audio clips to add background music to your show. Instructor: Gray Alexander

Our last session is about file and folder management in Windows. We offer a plan for organizing your files so you can easily keep track of them and find them when needed.

The last hour we discuss the maintenance necessary to keep your computer running like new. Each session has time for you to ask your questions so you can go home confident in using XP. Instructor Gray Alexander

7 p.m. Website Creation

In the lecture you see how to research the availability of a domain name, how to shop for hosting and how a complete Web site can be constructed using SiteSpinner, an inexpensive, fun software package for making simple or fancy Web sites. Instructor: Brigitte Haag

This lecture shows how to download and install Picasa, a free program that brings your pictures into your PC, lets you browse them, organized them, and make amazing photo improvements quickly and easily. Instructor: Fred Wise
