It's summertime — well, not technically, but the weather would suggest otherwise — so what better way to celebrate the sizzling heat than by attending a food-and-music festival?

A Taste of Pinellas takes place today through Sunday at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. Benefiting All Children's Hospital, the taste features samplings by 42 restaurants, live music, interactive games, fireworks and loads of family-friendly entertainment.

For the past 20 years, All Children's Hospital has presented the family-friendly event to raise money for its leading pediatric referral center. This year, all money raised will go to the hospital's capital campaign. For information, visit www.AllKids.org.

Expect a few surprises and new restaurants at this year's festivities, including performances of the four-legged kind. "Disc-Connected" K-9s will be showing off their Frisbee catching abilities throughout the three-day event.

"We have 42 participating restaurants this year, which is very close to the number last year, indicating that the economy did not have as much of an effect on the restaurants' involvement as we thought it might," said Michelle Montgomery, spokeswoman for the festival.

The festival coincides with the 26th annual All Children's Hospital Telethon on WFLA, Channel 8(from 8:30 p.m. Saturday through 6:30 p.m. Sunday). Featuring News Channel 8 anchors such as Gayle Sierens and Keith Cate, the telethon raises millions of dollars for the hospital.

Several restaurants have been added to this year's festival participants: 400 Beach Seafood & Tap House, Bob Evans, Ceviche Tapas Bar and Restaurant, Empanada World, Five Guys, Friendly Fisherman, Gratzzi/Ammazza, Ha-Long Bay, La Fogata & Bellini's, Mookies Kettle Korn, Savannah's and The Venue.

Adults can enjoy hanging out in the specialty and imported beer garden, while the kids run and play inside the new expanded Kid's Zone, featuring water balloons, volleyball, inflatable slides, a climbing wall, a bungee trampoline, contests, races and dancing.

The Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Your Tummy Right Tour also will be hanging out in the Kids Zone featuring free samples, an inflatable kid-size climbing wall, the Lunchables Cool Bus and Stage, pizza toss and cracker stacker, and the "Live with Lunchables" green screen.

Organizers are allowing patrons to be in charge of how much money they spend by offering free admission. Interested patrons can purchase sheets of tickets to sample the various foods. A sheet of eight tickets sells for $5. The event takes place at Vinoy Park, 501 Fifth Ave. N.E., St. Petersburg.
